APRIL

Title:  Tired of Teaching Vocabulary the Old Way? Try These New Strategies to add Vitality to Your Instruction!

Descriptor: "To be successful, our students must understand complex texts, engage deeply with content-area concepts, and participate in academic discussions. To that end, this session will give participants an opportunity to explore technology resources that will positively impact vocabulary instruction. Participants will engage in activities designed for improving student vocabulary skills which are
content and grade level specific. Walk away from this session with tools that can be implemented immediately in any content area."



Title:  OneNote Class Notebook

Descriptor:  "The OneNote Class Notebook app lets a teacher quickly set up a personal workspace for every student, a content library for handouts, and a collaboration space for lessons and creative activities, all within one powerful notebook. The new free Class Notebook add-in for the OneNote desktop (2013 or 2016) is designed to help teachers save time and be even more efficient with their Class Notebooks. The add-in includes page and section distribution and quick review of student work.

Title:  Excel - Intermediate for Visual Representation and Data Analysis 
Where: WBM Computer Lab 600
When: Tuesday March 7, 2017, 3:15pm-4:15pm

Descriptor: Learn to use some of the more advanced features and functions in Excel in this hands-on workshop.  TN Standards include data interpretation by students in a variety of ways.  Objectives include the following tasks/functions:  *Find and Replace, *Concatenate, *Text to Columns, *Conditional Formats, *Basic Functions (Average, Sum, etc.), *Protecting sheets and workbooks, *Mail merge, *Data Forms, *Creating a chart, *Inserting Leading zeroes, *Taking data from Excel and create charts in PowerPoint.


Title:  Digital Assessments made Easy with Microsoft Forms 
Where: DMK Computer Lab 
When: Wednesday March 15, 2017, 3:15pm-4:15pm

Descriptor: Microsoft Forms is a new part of Office 365 Education that allows teachers or students to easily and quickly create custom surveys, quizzes, questionnaires, registrations and more. Form authors can invite others to complete forms, which they can do using any web browser, even on mobile devices. During this session, participants will learn how to create forms and share them with their students to assess the content they have presented in class.
 

 

FEBRUARY

Title:  Shmoop

Descriptor: Shmoop University is a program free to RCS students and teachers that provides a diverse set of resources for both teachers and students. In this session you will learn how to create classes and get your students enrolled in Shmoop, explore the Shmoop Test Prep database which includes ACT, SAT, TN Ready, and AP course tests, and assign Shmoop courses to students. Shmoop courses and teaching guides provide teachers with lesson plans complete with essay questions, activities, quizzes, and discussion topics that teachers can use anytime. 

Title:  Excel -Basics for Visual Representation and Data Analysis

Descriptor: Learn the basics of Microsoft Excel 2013/2016 by learning ways to increase productivity and maximize visual representation and data analysis in the classroom. This training is designed for learners who are new to excel. Goals for this session are: learn basic terminology, data entry, data analysis, explanation of basic excel tools, and basic formatting tasks. Participants of this session will be able to create a basic spreadsheet and format it using the basic tools of excel.

Title:  Edlio: Teacher Webpages Made Easy

Descriptor: Rutherford County Schools is excited to announce that it is moving to an easy to use, consistent communication tool with Edlio webpages. Teachers can now update their webpage from any device. Parents and students have the option to subscribe to the teacher’s site and receive push notifications.  In this session, teachers will create a page, update their profile, add assignments to their class calendar, build picture or video galleries, and more.  Teachers will be amazed at how easy and fast this communication process can be.

Descriptor: Technology today provides educators with a vast array of online tools to gauge student understanding and target student learning needs. During this session, we will examine and experiment with the most effective tools currently available for formative assessment to aid with classroom learning goals.

Educators get quick tips and tricks to stay organized with OneNote to enhance their professional productivity.

Descriptor: This session will provide an overview of how to access, navigate, and edit the PLC OneNote Notebook shared by the PLC lead or administrator. OneNote is an electronic notebook used to organize and share your files digitally in Office 365.  

Title:  USA Test Prep for Assessment and Remediation (NOT IN SCHOOLSTATION)

Descriptor: USA Test Prep is an excellent tool for assessing student performance on the Tennessee state standards, as well as remediating students who perform below the expected level.  This session will focus on setting up classes and assessments within the program, as well as analyzing the data that is available. 

NOTE: USA Test Prep is a program that was purchased by WBMS for the teachers.  Only teachers at WBMS will have accounts to use this program.

Descriptor: Teacher websites can be used for so much more than posting standards and keeping a calendar.  A website can become a virtual learning environment accessible to students from anywhere and at all times, if we build in some key elements.  Find out how your website can be used for presenting material, completing make-up work, and differentiating instruction.
This workshop offers ideas for creating a Rutherford County Schools web site to link from the school landing page using the approved Weebly platform. http://education.weebly.com/

Descriptor:  I Ready Math is an adaptive software program that supports student success with the Ready Math curriculum. This dynamic software provides personalized student instruction targeted to students’ unique needs. This session is required for all Elementary and Middle School Math teachers.
