Welcome to Computer Applications or Career Explorations! 

 

If you are an 8th Grade student, you will complete an introductory course to Career Explorations.  The goal of the course is to discover your abilities and  interests,  learn how to set measurable goals, and develop skills you will need to both excel in the workforce and in your post secondary education pursuits.

 

If you are a Computer Applications student,  you will investigate and apply numerous skill-sets needed to program computer programs and problem solve through various coding activities.

 

I look forward to your success and growth as we complete the course work.

Week 1

Contact me using email.  My email is on the homepage or use [email protected]  In the Subject type First Assignment. 
 
In the body of your email, type me three paragraphs. 
 
Paragraph 1:  Tell me about you, your hobbies, what you are good at doing, etc. 
 
Paragraph 2:  What do you enjoy about school, what challenges you have with school, and anything I should know about how you learn or any special needs you have as a student. 
 
Paragraph 3: Tell me about how good you are at using technology, what you need to improve, and what you hope to do for work as an adult.

6th Grade Work Express Code Assignments 6-7
 
7th Grade Work on Code WebLab Lesson 6 all items.
**Lesson 1-5 should already be finished as well.
 
8th Grade:  Email [email protected] for attachments and/or assignments.  I will send directly to your school email account, the assignments you will need to complete.
 
Email barringerj with any questions of needs.

Week 3

6th and 7th Grade go to WBMS website, Clever, Code Icon and complete assignments on Express Code and Game Lab.
 
8th Grade:  Complete attachments on Success.
Oakland Registration in Monday. Attend your scheduled freshman orientation.

Week 8

6th and 7th Grade:  Go to WBMS homepage, Clever, Mr. Barringer's page, and Code Icon.  Work on Game Lab Assignments on Code.
 
8th Grade complete the Values Survey, Interview Project.  
Also, log into Clever off the WBMS homepage and go to Khan Academy.  You will sign in using your school credentials and then complete the assignments that I have for you.

Week 2 Quarter 2

6th Grade:  Email barringerj@rcschools and I will respond with your Join Code for Code.org
 
Next go to WBMS Homepage, Click Clever, Click the Code Icon.  Type your Join Code to begin your lessons.
 
7th Grade:  Email barringerj@rcschools and I will respond with your Join Code for Code.org
 
Next go to WBMS Homepage, Click Clever, Click the Code Icon.  Type your Join Code to begin your lessons.
 
8th Grade:  Send me an email.  I will attach assignments directly to your email.  Complete the attachment PowerPoint

Sept 19

8th Grade  
1.  Complete Adult Interview Project uploaded last week
2.  Check student email and complete Youscience test
3.  Complete attached assignments based on Youscience results
 
6th and 7th Grade Coding
Go to WBMS Homepage
Click Clever App
Select Code
Complete Unit 2 Lesson 3 Game Lab
Continue on with Lessons 4 and 5 

Week 5 Post

6th Grade:  Go to Code using clever and continue Lessons 2-7
7th Grade: Go to Code using clever and continue Lessons 2-7
8th Grade:
1) Read attached GPA Lesson and answer three questions emailed to [email protected]
2) Check your skyward grades and write down your current average in your core classes (Science, ELA, Math, US History)
3) Youtube and search calculating gpa.  Watch a video and calculate your GPA and email me your results.
4) Set 3 short term goals to help you improve your GPA or maintain its average.  Email me your 3 goals.
5) Complete attached Adult Interview project

6th and 7th Grade

1.  Go to WBMS Homepage
2.  Click Clever Tab in Green at the Top
3.  Click Mr. Barringer's Icon (Blue/Purple Bear)
4.  Click CODE Icon
5.  Work on Lessons under units 1-3 for :25 per day
