WBMS Baseball HANDBOOK Player/Parent Contract

Head Coach: Blake Grosch

[email protected]

Being on the team is an acknowledgement that you and your guardian have read and agree to this contract.

Player Expectations:  Act responsibly and honorably both inside and outside of school: As a member of the team, each player will gain the respect of his peers, teachers, parents/guardians, and others. Each athlete needs to remember that he is always a member of the team. The way he acts in public (school, community, etc.) reflects on the whole team and the school. Players will act responsibly and respectfully in all classroom environments. Players are expected to be outstanding leaders in the classroom. Disruptive behavior and tardiness will not be accepted. If you are disruptive, have excessive tardiness, or fail classes, you are subject to discipline from the coaches. This discipline may include (but is not limited to) running, parent meetings, loss of playing time, and being dismissed from the team.

Social Media: Mature and responsible social media is expected from all players and issues related to WBMS and the girls. Please be responsible and don’t post anything that may jeopardize the integrity of the school, the team, or yourself.

Academic Responsibilities: Each player is expected to always maintain grades of C or higher in all classes. If a player has below a D, he will be suspended from games and required to attend practices and work on homework until the grade is brought up to a C (70) or higher. Players will be encouraged to strive for academic excellence. Playing a sport is a privilege a student earns and maintains for doing well in the classroom.

**Report cards are to be brought to coaches on the day they are handed out.

Disciplinary Actions: Any player receiving disciplinary action at school will receive consequences on the team. Time out: 1 day suspension on the day of the Timeout. ISS: 1 day suspension on the day of ISS: OSS: 1 game suspension, possible removal from team.

We understand some things are out of our control or happen: Discipline/Academic discipline procedures will be as follows:

1st - Informal meeting with player

2nd - Recorded meeting with player, parent note, email, and/or Remind.

3rd - Meeting with player and parent. Plan will be made to correct behavior.

4th - If behavior does not improve or other issues develop, player will be dismissed from the team. *Fees/fundraising are not refundable.

Uniforms: Keep players uniforms washed and clean. Have what you need before each practice and game. Uniforms should not be worn to school. Uniforms are to be returned within 1 week of the last game played.

Player fees will be collected from November 1st- February 28th. Player can pick jersey number when they pay player fees; no number will be reserved.

Practice Obligations:

ALL PRACTICES and GAMES ARE MANDATORY – Players are expected to be at daily practices. Please schedule appointments around practice times. Non-Emergency Doctor/Dentist/Eye/etc. appointments are not excused. DO NOT miss practice for hair appointments, family time, etc. We generally do Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday; however, we will occasionally have a Friday, or possibly Saturday, practice.  These days will be told to you ASAP. You can be excused for other school activities (Band/Archery/Beta type things), but if it is the day before a game you will not start.

Missing practice or games for unexcused reasons will result in loss of playing time or removal from the team after 3 unexcused times.  Anything that is not an emergency is unexcused.

Absences: In the event you are absent from school, you are not allowed to play a game that day. You must attend ½ of the school day to participate in the game (this includes leaving school).

Dugout Rules: Only WBMS coaches, players, and WBMS staff are allowed in the dugout. Parents are encouraged to support their children. However, during practices & games, they should refrain from approaching the dugout to coach, counsel, or to critique their player(s). If there is an injury, we will let parents know; otherwise save what you have until the end of the game. If players miss a sign because they are being coached/yelled at from off the field, they will be pulled and not reenter that game. Players should not leave dugout during games unless it is to use the restroom. Players should have everything they need with them inside the dugout (sunscreen, medications, water, Gatorade, snacks, etc.). Absolutely no cell phone usage in the dugout at any time. 1st offense being outside the dugout or on a phone 5 laps around the outside of the field, 2nd 10 laps, 3rd 15 laps, 4th 20 laps, 5th 25 laps, and 6th dismissal from the team.

Playing Time: Playing time is not guaranteed. Playing time is earned. What the player does from 8:00 – 3:00 in the classroom will also dictate playing time. Playing time is decided by the coaches. Playing time is non-negotiable. No child is promised playing time or a starting position on this team. Playing time is based on skill level, ability, and how well an athlete performs in practices and games.

Maintain a positive attitude on and off the field: Each player is expected to maintain a positive attitude while treating their teammates, coaches, and other opponents with respect. Cursing or vulgar language will NOT be tolerated from players or coaches. Each player will be expected to pay attention during practices and games. Players are expected to hustle at all times, perform with urgency, as well as maintain good sportsmanship. Complaining will not be tolerated. Consequences and potential dismissal from the team will be discussed and/or issued if these things occur.

Work hard at everything: Each player is expected to give full effort during practice. Each player (and coach) owes it to the others to practice and play as hard as he can. Players must develop the discipline to do every drill in every practice, the right way, and to compete every day in practice.

The goal of the OUR  program is to teach discipline and to assist athletes with developing a strong work ethic and love for the game.  Our 1st goal is to get a minimum of 1% better each day.

Parent Responsibilities:  Positive support. Parents, we love your support at our home and away games, but please do not taunt any of the players, coaches, or umpires. We need to be good examples of great sportsmanship on all levels, from parents, players, coaches, staff, and administration. We encourage you to cheer for ALL the players. Every player is a part of our team.  Parents who continue to break this will be asked to leave and game(s) will not continue until they do (even if the game has to be forfeited).

Please refrain from shouting coaching strategies or personal instructions to players and coaches. It is a major distraction that sometimes results in them missing important information from the coaches. If this happens the player will be pulled from the game.  Please refrain from critiquing coaches and other players in front of your child.  We understand excitement can get the best of us all at times, but if you are an issue you will be asked to leave. Umpires are very hard to find currently so keep rude comments to yourself. If these continue to happen several times over a game, a warning will be given, and then we will end and forfeit that game.

We, as coaches, welcome communication; however, we ask that you leave the coaching and playing time to us. All players may not play in every game. This is a decision that the coaches will make. There are numerous reasons why we make the decisions we do; please stand behind us and support us. -

Communication: WE WILL NOT DISCUSS playing time**, other children, team strategy, and team decisions. These issues will not be discussed with any member of the coaching staff. As coaches, we make decisions based on what we think is best for entire team. We ask that if you are concerned with what your player can do to get better, please have your PLAYER (1st) speak with the coaches concerning these issues. We ask that parents refrain from asking the coaching staff these types of questions during the season as we want to promote responsibility among the players and decrease the likelihood of parent/coach discussions concerning playing time. Coaches will not discuss after games anything that went on. If you feel the need to discuss a matter you must wait 24 hours before approaching the topic.

**If you would like a detailed overview of your player we will gladly send you one.

ALL PRACTICES ARE CLOSED TO PARENTS, FRIENDS, ETC. When practicing at the field, please stay in your vehicle or the parking lot. Parents are to wait in the parking lot for the players. When we have finished practice if you want to volunteer to help with something to prepare the field, please let us know and we will set up a time for you to help.

Money, Fundraising, and Volunteering:

2022-2023 Goal is $10,000. We will have a Calendar and Sponsor Signs as fundraisers. If we meet our goal of $10,000 there will be no player fee. Fundraising is not subtracted from the player's total, but from the team goal (any questions about this need to be directed to the bookkeeper Mrs. Simmons).

Fundraising will happen from 8/7/22-2/28/23; however, only things turned in before 11/1/22 will be subtracted from our goal. Please be positive, supportive, and volunteer to help out in any fundraising opportunities we have. Players and parents will agree to pay for a team fee. Players will be held responsible for the fees if they are dismissed or quit the team. By signing below, the player and his family agree to be bound by the WBMS Baseball Handbook as outlined above and shall in every effort uphold the high standards of the WBMS Baseball Team.

If someone cannot pay fees please email Coach Grosch so we can help with that.

Parents and Players will sign one of these sheets stating you have read and agree to the above.
